The K Club Co. Kildare - Leinster - Ireland | Venue of
the Ryder Cup 2006
Forty minutes west of Dublin, The K Club nestles amidst
500 acre of rolling Kildare countryside on the banks of the river Liffey.
This superlative resort boasts what is arguably the finest five star hotel
in Ireland and two outstanding golf courses. Centrepiece of the resort,
the elegantly restored 18th Century Straffan House opened as a hotel in
1991, while the surrounding parkland of the estate has been moulded into
a superb championship facility at the hand of the legendary player Arnold
Palmer.
The K Club offers the highest standards of comfort, services and cuisine
in a timeless atmosphere, handsomely furnished with antiques and displaying
works of art. Accommodation is distributed between the Main House and
the Courtyard Wing. Each bedroom in both wings has been individually decorated
in its own unique style, offering every conceivable luxury and amenities.
The Courtyard Suites, adjacent to the main house and accessed by a covered
walkaway, feature two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, living room,
dining room and fully equipped kitchen area.
Guests can enjoy elegant dining at The Byerley Turk, one of Ireland's
finest restaurants serving a gastronomic menu with Irish flavour using
local ingredients, some produced in the estate's Victorian walled garden.
For more casual meals, The Monza all day restaurant features Irish/Italian
specialities while The Oriental offers an Asian fusion cuisine in intimate
surroundings overlooking the Smurfit Course. At the stylish Legends' clubhouse
restaurant, decorated with golf memorabilia, guests can enjoy full and
light meals with a view to Palmer Course's 18th hole.
The K Club is a full country club with a range of leisure activities ranging
from golf to fishing. The K Spa is a unique facility covering over 20,000
square feet. Its centrepiece is the large indoor pool, surrounded by the
spa, jacuzzi, relaxation areas, treatment rooms, fitness room and beauty
salon.
The K Club is one of the few clubs in Europe to boast two bona fide championship
courses side by side, the Palmer and Smurfit, each offering a distinctive
experience for the golfer. The original course, the Palmer, has been the
venue of the Smurfit European Open since 1995 and will play host to The
Ryder Cup in 2006. Arnold Palmer cleverly used the woodland and riverbank
to deliver an exciting parkland layout. Inaugurated in 2003, the Smurfit
Course provides golfers with a completely different challenge. Best described
as an inland Links, the Smurfit has already been the venue of the European
Open twice. An exclusive venue, The K Club is nevertheless opened to all
and novice golfers will find excellent tuition and practice facilities.
