At the turn of the century, few places in Europe were as fashionable as the three famous spa resorts of the "Bohemian Triangle", formed by Frantiskovy Lazne, Marianske Lazne and Karlovy Vary, better known under their German names Franzensbad, Marienbad and Karlsbad. Located in the wooded hills of Western Bohemia on the German border, this spa triangle is also a prime golf destination that includes the country's two oldest courses at Marienbad and Karlsbad, Gary Player design at Astoria Golf Resort and the brand new Frantiskovy Lazne Golf Club.

If Marianske Lazne (Marienbad) is the oldest course in the country - it was built in 1905, Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) is the eldest golf club - it was founded in 1904, although the present layout only dates back to 1933. The club was established by the "Gentlemen's Fencing Club" to expand the leisure offer for Karlsbad Spa visitors and a nine hole course was built. Later on, a complete new course was laid out by C. Noskowski and inaugurated in 1933. After the fall of communism in 1989, the club underwent a full renovation to become a one of Europe's foremost golf resort, listed in Europe's top 100 and venue of several international tournaments. A brand new clubhouse was inaugurated in 1997 to host the Proshop, the Aqua Wellness Club, the 19th Hole Bar and the Golf Restaurant, managed by Grandhotel Pupp.

Overlooking the river at the heart town, Grandhotel Pupp is Karlovy Vary flagship property. Founded in 1701, it was rebuilt in luxurious and extravagant style in the 1870's to welcome the European aristocracy who came here to "take the waters". Today, Pupp's facilities comprise the 5-star Grandhotel Pupp and the adjacent 4-star Parkhotel Pupp. The Grandhotel offers 112 luxurious rooms, suites and apartments, while the Parkhotel has 116 rooms and suites, equally elegantly furnished and fitted. Both share the same dining, leisure and business facilities. The culinary tradition of the founder Mr. Pupp, a pastry cook himself, is reflected in the pastry offer which includes the famous Pupp cakes, while culinary specialities from international and Czech cuisine are served at various dining venues. Wellness facilities at the Grandhotel include the Roman Bath, the Spa Centre Harp and the Beauty Studio, while Karlsbad's hot mineral springs are within walking distance.
