Schloss Pichlarn Hotel, Golf & Spa Irdning - Ennstal -Styria - Austria
Amidst the lush alpine meadows and deep forests of the
lower reaches of the Enns Valley lies Austria's foremost golf resort,
Schloss Pichlarn. This superb complex extending over a large historical
estate comprises the Pichlarn Castle, hosting a five star hotel, wellness
centre, a riding club, a tennis academy and a splendid Donald Harradine
championship course.
Standing on a wooded ridge dominating the golf course, Schloss Pichlarn
has overlooked the peaceful scenery of the valley for over 900 years.
The castle was fully restored and new wings were added, combining luxury
accommodation and modern facilities with the charm and character of this
ancient dwelling. All rooms are lavishly furnished and most have a balcony.
The suites were appointed with antiques and period furniture, while provided
with en-suite marble bathrooms and sunny balconies.
Schloss Pichlarn boasts a superb culinary offer. The Winter Garden opens
onto a terrace in the courtyard, where the lavish buffet breakfast and
five course dinner are served al fresco in season. For guests on a slimming
diet, low calorie meals are turned into a real gourmet experience. The
à la carte Schloss Stuberl restaurant serves traditional Styrian
specialities in a typical alpine atmosphere. These are nicely complemented
by the Schloss Bar, the Golf Stuberl clubhouse restaurant and the Martinas
Halfway House on the golf course.
Sports facilities at the resort are second to none and include a tennis
academy, riding club, beauty farm, fitness and welness centre. The Grand
Spa, opened in June 2006, offers a wide range of beauty and health treatments,
while the House of Harmony beauty farm provides a choice of therapies
for body and mind. There is also a Tennis Academy with three outdoor clay
courts as well as two indoor courts and a Riding Club managed by Austrian
Champion Harrald Riedl. The Enns valley is ideal for riding, biking, hiking,
trekking, climbing, rafting or canoeing and the concierge desk will gladly
arrange tailor made excursions for guests.
The hotel own golf course at Schloss Pichlarn extends over hilly grounds
gently sloping down in front of the castle. First designed as a nine hole
course in 1972 by German architect Kurt Rossknecht, the layout was later
extended to eighteen holes in 1983 by British and Swiss based architect
Donald Harradine. Mother Nature provided all the necessary ingredients
to shape an exceptional course and Harradine used the contours of the
land to design a very natural and unobtrusive layout. The fairways run
between tall stands of trees or on more open grounds through mature orchards.
