Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate George - Garden Route - Western Cape - South Africa Venue of the BMW Golf Cup International World Final 2006
South Africa's premier golf and leisure resort, Fancourt
lies in the heart of the scenic Garden Route, East of Cape Town in the
Western Cape Province. Voted Africa's Leading Golf Resort five years in
a row, Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate extends over 1,500 acres
of lush landscaped countryside with the majestic backdrop of the Outeniqua
Mountains. The estate is an intriguing mix of Old World charm and contemporary
luxury boasting four Gary Player eighteen hole golf courses, a health
spa, five star accommodation, fine dining venues and luxury estate.
Accommodation options at Fancourt range from the beautifully restored
Manor House to stately Garden Suites and Studios. Built in 1847 and a
National Monument, the Manor House offers 34 bedrooms in a distinctive
historic environment, while the Garden Suites and Studios are located
in the peaceful setting of the magnificent gardens.
With its vaulted passageway and large bay windows overlooking the manicured
gardens and fairways, the Clubhouse is the heat and hub of the estate,
hosting the reception, proshop, lounge, Le Pêcheur restaurant, billiard
room, jewellers and locker rooms.
Fancourt Spa offers a comprehensive range of world class treatments and
facilities including a Roman bath, with magnificent views to the Outeniqua
Mountains, saunas, steam rooms, tepidarium, jacuzzi and a fully equipped
gym staffed by personal trainers.
Yet golf is the main dish at Fancourt, with four eighteen hole courses
designed by legendary Gary Player. Since opening in the early 90's with
just 27 holes, Fancourt's Outeniqua and Montagu golf courses have matured
and developed into two of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in the country,
both rank in South Africa's Top 10.
Inaugurated in 2000, The Links at Fancourt is without doubt the most impressive
piece of golf design ever in South Africa. Players design team spent
months studying the classic links courses of Scotland and Ireland, and
then embarked on the ambitious task of recreating some of their finest
holes to make a genuine links test on what was once an airfield. The result
is awe-inspiring and has received praise from some of the world's finest
golfers, who came here to play the 2003 Presidents Cup, the 2005 Women's
World Cup and SAA Open.
Southern Capes premier 18-hole public course, Bramble Hill is the
fourth course at Fancourt, combining the links and parkland features of
its neighbours in one single layout. In addition, Fancourt boasts a fine
golf academy with state-of-the-art practice and teaching facilities operated
by PGA professionals and featuring the first Taylor Made Performance Lab
outside the US.
