Le Meridien Kathmandu Golf Resort & Spa Gorkana Forest Golf Club - Kathmandu - Nepal
Le Meridien Kathmandu Gokarna Forest Golf Resort &
Spa is located within the city limits of Kathmandu yet in a secluded setting
deep inside Gokarna Forest, a conservatory area and traditionally the
private Royal hunting grounds of the Kings of Nepal. The majestic Himalayas,
holy valley and ancient forest provide a stunning backdrop to the resort
which comprises a historic lodge, a luxury hotel, a beautiful spa and
a world class championship golf course.
Accommodation is distributed between the heritage Hunter's Lodge and Cottages
scattered amongst towering century-old trees. All rooms are spacious and
tastefully designed with a fusion of modern and ethnic Nepali styles.
They are also well appointed with every modern amenities, inlcuding satellite
TV and broad band internet access, while enjoying beautiful views over
the lush Gokarna Forest and courtyard gardens.
Dining venues at Le Meridien Kathmandu range from Courtyard all day dining
restaurant, to Hunter's Lodge, the resort fine dining venue featuring
Nepalese and Indian cuisine, and the Clubhouse Restaurant, offering international
cuisine in a relaxed tropical setting overlooking the golf course. These
are nicely complemented by the Library Lounge and Agni Bar, both perfect
to enjoy a drink or spend an evening.
Steps away from the hotel and nestling in the tropical forest, Harmony
Spa combines therapeutic care with a pristine natural setting. The Spa
includes a variety of rejuvenating treatments based on Ayurvedic techniques
while facilities encompass specialised treatment rooms, beauty centre,
indoor pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, as well a a fully equipped
gymnasium. Further activities on this 500 acre estate include nature walks,
bird watching, picnics and golf
A preferred stop on the PGAI Tour, the championship course is the centrepiece
of the resort. Built to exacting USGA specification, it was laid out by
David McLay Kidd, of Gleneagles Golf Developments Scotland and Bandon
Dunes fame. The architect was inspired no doubt by the myth, magic and
mystery of this once Forbidden Valley and Royal hunting grounds, delivering
a spectacular course that extends through deep forests and open fields
with the ever present backdrop of the Himalayas.
The layout is both a golfing challenge and a feast to the eyes. Haven
to numerous species of birds and animals, this remnant forest of medieval
Kathmandu Valley is a conservation area which has remained unchanged for
five hundred years. Cynical monkey, shy spotted deer and the occasional
leopard will accompany players through their round.
