Sandy Lane Barbados | Venue of the WGC - Barbados World
Cup 2006
Sandy Lane enjoys a prime oceanfront location on the
western coast of Barbados, the Caribbean's easternmost island known as
"Little England". Originally built in 1961 on the site of an
old sugar plantation, Sandy Lane firmly established itself as a premier
address in the Caribbean and hosted many movie stars, business personalities
and royalties. In 2001, the resort reopened after being completely rebuilt
to feature 45 holes of golf, luxury accommodation, fine dining, full country
club facilities and an exclusive 5 bedroom villa.
Accommodation at Sandy Lane comprises 112 luxury rooms and suites, all
exceedingly spacious, lavishly appointed, tastefully decorated and uniquely
featuring a large private verandah, flat screen TV with NEOS in-room entertainment
system and luxurious en-suite bathrooms with specially designed massage
showers.
Sandy Lane's two main restaurants overlook the beach, affording spectacular
views of the Caribbean and sunset. These are L'Acajou, a classy seafront
venue featuring New World haute cuisine with a wide selection of New World
and European wines, and the casual beachfront Bajan Blue, offering the
finest cuisine from the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Asia. Both are complemented
by The Spa Café and The Country Club Restaurant, while traditional
Afternoon Tea is served on the lower terrace.
The new Sandy Lane Spa is a state-of-the-art facility that blends traditional
therapies from the Caribbean, the Far East and Europe. Facilities include
eleven VIP treatment suites, relaxation and meditation rooms, a spa circuit,
spa café and salon. The resort also boasts full country club facilities
with nine tennis courts and a 1000 feet white sandy beach with a wide
range of watersports.
Sandy Lane provides contrasting golf experiences and guests can choose
between playing the charming Old Nine course, Tom Fazio's new Country
Club championship course and the much talked about Green Monkey. The dramatic
Green Monkey course being developed by Tom Fazio has not officially open
yet, but guests at Sandy Lane already enjoy privileged, though limited
access to the course.
This championship-style layout has been carved out of a former quarry
with dramatic elevation changes affording stunning vistas of the Caribbean
Sea. The course is named after the island's famous Bajan green monkeys,
and features a bunker with a grass island carved in the shape of a monkey!
Sandy Lane will have the honour to host the World Golf Championships -
Barbados World Cup in December 2006, a tribute to the exceptional quality
of The Country Club Course at this upscale resort.
